I took this picture while in Philly and really liked it, but it didn't fit with my document. It felt like a waste to leave it in my folder, so I decided to use it this week. I like the simplicity of the gold against the red brick and that there is no context as to where it is. Because there are only the Asian characters, one may not realize that it is in the US. Usually a lack of context bothers me, but in this case, there was something appealing about it. I also did not center the writing on purpose because there is something off about it. It draws the attention to the blankness of the wall.
I then found this photograph online at http://fineartamerica.com/featured/writing-on-the-wall-pamela-patch.html.
I instantly loved it. The similarity between the two photographs is the subject. In each. the writing is the main focus. The writing is also set on the right side, although there is also a tree in the photo. One could consider this photograph more balanced than the one that I took. Although the colors are warmer in the first picture and make it more inviting, while the bottom picture is not quite so inviting and a bit cold, yet they are both simply different takes on the same topic.
