Subway

I took this picture at the entrance of a subway in Philadelphia. I wanted the Patco pole to frame the photograph. I also chose to show only one steps going down because I liked the darkness and mysterious element and decided to included more of the street.

This picture from the internet is of a subway entrance in New York City.  This picture shows more to the viewer and is taken looking down the stairs. I like how the railings of the subway are on either side of the frame and move the views eye down the steps.

Beautiful flowers

I took this picture of these beautiful flowers. You can see the great detail and texture of the crisp white flower in the front. The colors of the flowers in the background seem to blend together as they are out of focus. The placing of the white flower is to the right of the shot and the other flowers move out expanding the frame to the left.

I found this photograph online after I had taken the first photo. They are very similar pictures because of the focus of the camera. In this photograph you can also see the detail of the petal and leaves however the flowers in the back are out of focus and blurred. I like the bright colors in this photograph, these are definitely one of my favorite types of flowers! 

Looking down

I took the first picture while sitting on a bench eating breakfast. This photograph shows the perspective of the photographer. The viewers eye travels from the bagel to the tip of my boot which appears fair away. I think it makes you wonder the location of the photographer as well. This angle really puts the viewer in the photographers place and really involves the photographer.

This second photograph I found online. It was taken from the same angle as I took mine. This photograph makes me imagine what the photographer looks like and where he is sitting. This is a very unique view point by showing the photographers legs and it brings lots of questions to the observer as well as making the viewer feel connected to the photographer.

Baggage #8

Pintrest has seem to become something I really enjoy using to look through photography.  It really feels like a good place for documentary because people post things about they're life whether it's from the past, present, or about the future.

As I mentioned in earlier blogs, I really find a shallow depth of field the most aesthetic part of photography; so you can see why this photo caught my eye.  It inspired me to take a picture similar in my own room.  I Love how the detail of the door and bag are so sharp.  The door lets you into the room but you can't clearly see what is in the room besides for the bed.  It is evident that light is coming in from a side window.  In my own photograph below, there is light coming in from a window from behind.  In my opinion, the light worked better in this photograph than my own.  I also took the bag a s a symbolic item.  People's rooms are private, people have baggage.  The things hidden in that bag will let you know about the person who lives in that fuzzy room.  Here is my replica of the photograph.

The photograph i took is a closer up image of the bag but still gives a unfocused view into the room.

In The Eyes #7

I really like how the focus is on the horse and he/she seems so calm.  But, at the same time it seems as if he/she is closed in a cage.  I caught the same type of moment when I was home with my boyfriend's dog.  She is sitting on the couch, waiting for her Mom because just like the horse, she is closed in the house.  What I really took from the horse photograph into the one i took of the Bichon, Maddie, is the emotion in the eyes being captured.

A View From The Edge #6

Something I noticed I enjoy doing is taking photographs close up, with a shallow depth of field.  This is a photograph i took of a structure in Collegeville.  Then while looking online, I found a similar photograph expressing the same photography techniques.  I really look taking a photograph from a POV that is not what you would normally see, makes something bland become interesting.
